Pointillism

Pointillism is a type of painting technique. Some key visual elements of pointillism are the dots of paint that are used to make the paintings and the patterns that the dots are put in to make the paintings. Pointillism was developed in 1886 by Georges Seurat and Paul Signac, branching from another painting technique called impressionism. Pointillism was first used as a term that art critics used to ridicule and make fun of the art pieces of these artists. Now it is still used but without ridiculing and making fun of the art pieces of the artists. In the pointillism painting technique, instead of mixing paint to make a color, the dots of paint are put and arranged close together so that the eyes of the viewer of the painting mixes the dots of paint in order to see a wider range of color. Most of the time, colors in pointillism art pieces are usually brighter than colors that are mixed together that are used in other kinds of painting techniques because some of the white canvas is usually showing through between the dots of paint. Anything can be used to make a pointillism art piece, but almost all of the pointillism art pieces are made with oil paints. Oil paints are used to make almost all pointillism art pieces due to the oil paints being very thick and the oil paints have a tendency not to run or bleed. When I first saw a pointillism painting, I was very impressed by how close the dots are to each other to make the paintings look good and how the dots are so close together that they made my eyes blend the colors together to make a wider range of colors. 280

Cubism
Cubism is a type of painting technique. Some key visual elements of cubism are the geometric shapes used to make the art pieces and the way that the shapes are put in to and arranged so that they make an abstract painting. Cubism was an avant-garde art movement in the early 20th century that was pioneered by Pablo Picasso and George Braque. Cubism revolutionized European painting and sculpture. It even inspired some movements in music, literature, and architecture. Due to influencing art, music, literature, and architecture, it has been considered as the most influential art movement of the 20th century. In cubism art pieces, instead of getting depicted in only one way, the artist depicts the subject in many different ways. When I first saw a cubism art piece, I was very impressed by how each painting could be interpreted in more than one way. I also thought that it was very cool and I was very impressed by how the artists were able to use some geometric shapes and make them into cubism art pieces that could be interpreted in many different ways.
This art piece is a cubism painting by Georges Braque. It was made in 1908 on an oil on canvas and it is called "Viaduct at L'Estaque". It is a very good example of a typical cubism art piece due to the geometric shapes used in this painting.
